Goodbye TikTok Music: What It Means for Music Streaming

blog

TikTok has announced the closure of its music streaming app, TikTok Music, which will officially shut down on November 28th, 2024.

Originally launched in the summer of 2023, the app was developed by ByteDance, building on the success of Resso, an earlier app introduced in India in 2020. Despite launching in markets like Brazil, Indonesia, Australia, Mexico, and Singapore, TikTok Music struggled to compete with established platforms like Spotify and SoundCloud.

Users are advised to transfer their playlists to other services by October 28th and request refunds if needed.

TikTok has assured that all user data and account information will be automatically deleted once the app closes.

While TikTok Music is coming to an end, TikTok remains a powerful force in the music industry, and it will be interesting to see how the company continues to influence the future of music.
